Shopify B2B

Definition

A set of native wholesale features available on Shopify Plus that let merchants sell to other businesses using company profiles, customer-specific catalogs, and price lists. It runs on the same store and checkout as direct-to-consumer selling.

Shopify B2B is a group of native wholesale features available on Shopify Plus that let a merchant sell to other businesses from the same store used for retail. It relies on company profiles, customer-specific catalogs, and price lists rather than a separate wholesale channel. Buyers place orders through the same Shopify checkout that direct-to-consumer shoppers use, so there is one storefront, one product catalog, and one order system to maintain.

How it works

The core object is the company. A company can hold multiple locations and multiple buyers (contacts), each with permissions and payment terms. You attach a catalog to a company or location, which controls both which products that buyer sees and what they pay through a price list. Price lists support fixed prices or percentage adjustments off retail, and you can set volume rules and minimums. Buyers log in to a dedicated B2B storefront experience and check out with terms such as net 30 or immediate payment.

Why it matters

Before native B2B, wholesale on Shopify usually meant a separate Shopify Plus wholesale channel, a third-party app, or a duplicate store. Native B2B removes that split, so inventory, discounts, and reporting stay in one place. It is a fit for merchants with a stable set of known accounts and agreed pricing.

Where quoting fits

Shopify B2B handles negotiated pricing well once terms are set, but it does not cover the back-and-forth before a deal: a buyer asking for a custom price, a merchant sending a quote, and the buyer accepting. That gap is where request-a-quote workflows sit. A quote can be turned into a Shopify draft order, and the buyer pays through the same native checkout B2B relies on. See the B2B quoting glossary for related terms, or pricing for how quoting tools are structured.

Frequently asked

Do I need Shopify Plus to use Shopify B2B?

Yes. The native B2B features (companies, catalogs, and price lists) are only available on the Shopify Plus plan. Lower plans need an app or a separate wholesale setup.

Is Shopify B2B the same as a quoting tool?

No. Shopify B2B applies pre-set prices to known accounts. A quoting tool handles the negotiation before a price is agreed, then hands the accepted quote to checkout, often as a draft order.

Can B2B and retail run on the same store?

Yes. That is the point of native B2B. Business buyers and consumers share one storefront, catalog, and checkout, with B2B buyers seeing their assigned catalog and pricing after logging in.
